Macedonia United Methodist Church is a "little country church" with a weekly worshiping congregation of about 100 strong. 

Sunday Services start at 9:00am, with Sunday School starting shortly after services end (about 10:15am)

We are located at the intersection of East Jack Jouett & Byrd Mill Roads near Bells Crossroads in Louisa County.

From the town of Louisa:

Take Courthouse Road (Route 208) south from town approximately 6-7 miles. Turn right on East Jack Jouett Road. Macedonia is one block ahead on the right, at the corner of East Jack Jouett Road and Byrd Mill Road.

From Interstate 64:
Take Louisa/Ferncliff Exit (143) from I64. From I-64 go approximately 2 miles north and turn left on East Jack Jouett Road. Macedonia is one block ahead on the right, at the corner of East Jack Jouett Road and Byrd Mill Road.

History

The congregation of Macedonia United Methodist Church was organized in 1832 and Trustees Hiram Sanders, David M. Hunter, David Thompson, George Hunter, Oliver Bartlett, Elisha Jones, James Roberts, James Timberlake and William Jackson received deed to land given by Wade and Marie Mills on April 9, 1832 for the building of a church for worship. Macedonia was assigned to the Columbia Circuit of the James River District, Virginia Annual Conference of The Methodist Episcopal Church and Reverend Samuel T. Moorman was assigned as the first Pastor. In 1835 the Louisa Circuit was formed and Macedonia became one of the churches on this new charge. In 1837 the Charlottesville District was formed and the Louisa Circuit became one of the charges on Charlottesville District since that time.

The first building erected on the above mentioned land was constructed on rough logs and probably held about 100 persons standing up. No one knows how long this log building was used; however, a large frame building was erected which stood until it was destroyed by fire on the night of December 19, 1900 as the church was being readied for a wedding to be held the next day. Immediately after the fire plans were made to replace the building and this was completed in time for Homecoming on April 4, 1902.

The present church building has been in constant use since that Homecoming in 1902 and a Church School addition, indoor plumbing, central heat and air conditioning, social hall and other improvements were made in 1978. A larger social hall and additional Sunday School classrooms were added in 2003. In 2007 Macedonia UMC and Byrd Chapel UMC, which had been a single charge, were split into two separate stand-alone "station" churches.

Macedonia United Methodist Church has a long and colorful history, much of it unrecorded; however, we do have various records and documents from our past as well as a complete list of former Pastors and their pictures and biographies in a permanent record book.
